Had Aston Villa not got new owners, a new head coach, a Sporting Director and a new way of operating in the 2018/19 campaign, we could well have turned the lights out and ceased to have existed, but we’ve seen plenty of changes on and off the pitch and it’s made for a different summer transfer window as a link this week with Bristol City centre-half Adam Webster doesn’t seem quite as far fetched as it otherwise would’ve.
With Smith and Suso having a play to recruit talent, but with development potential and then a sell on fee, rather than throwing endless amounts of cash into a furnace, 24-year-old Webster does fit our new profile.
With him having made 47 appearances (45 starts) for the Ashton Gate outfit last season, he contributed three goals and statistics website Whoscored credit him with four Man of the Matches and a rating of 7.30 across the campaign.
With negotiations ongoing for Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe’s future in doubt given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a closer look at him this summer, the Sun made the Webster claim as alternative cover, suggesting that £12million would be enough for them to do a deal as they would make significant profit on the reported £3.5million they paid Ipswich for his services last summer.
With Webster also being loosely linked with Burnley, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Southampton and Watford, Villa fans are mixed on whether we should pay that amount, despite him impressing last season.
Rather get Axel for that amount

£12M for Championship quality as we go to the Prem? ???? What is this nonsense

I get the concern, but fans have to get their heads around the fact we are doing it differently now and I remember the very same claims being levelled at overhyped Jack Grealish and Who John £3million cheap option McGinn. If they cost £20million and have a foreign sounding name that’s always better, right.
Given Smith just got us promoted, how about some trust?
